Catlanta, a street artist from Atlanta, has been making small cat cut-out wood pieces with his paintings on them and has been distributing them all over the city by ways of a SCAVENGER HUNT.  This is his way of bringing the art lovers of Atlanta together and out of their houses for a free piece of art.

There’s something so simple and enjoyable about what Catlanta is doing.  Reminds me of my childhood.

The Story of Art in the Streets

I had the chance to go to this exhibit last year and it was pretty mindblowing.  It’s true and also bitter sweet when the artists say that 99% of their artwork is gone; put it up just to be taken down but to them it’s worth it.  Thank you to all the Martha Coopers out there that gave these artists a means to keep their art alive and documented.

The German urban art group, Mentalgassi, transforms grey, concrete streets into works of art by pasting photos of human faces on everyday objects.  I love it!

Last week I finally had time to stop by Art In the Streets at MOCA.  Here are just a few pics from that day; more to come.

I just finished watching a 24 minute presentation on JR, the 2011 Ted Prize winner and a French street artist, and his vision to change the world through art.  [watch the full video here]

Here is a short summary of his global exhibition.  His guerilla street art project is brave, intelligent, simple, and so inspiring.

DRAMA MAMA.    I’m not siding with Team Robbo or Team Banksy but this is funny; especially the “Graffiti 1, Street art 0” and “sponsored by Banksy” bits.  I get that Robbo’s a veteran in the graffiti game and Banksy messed up his shit but who made those rules anyway?  I guess there’s the principle and there are always unspoken rules in any trade.  But come on, putting up your own Team Robbo?  Corny.  Then again, he’s not steppin’ down or steppin’ back and I like that.  And the feud continues.

I finally got around to watching “Exit through the Gift Shop”, a Banksy film KIND OF about street art and the major players, how it started…etc. but the ending will surprise you.

Now here’s an interview with the producer and editor of the documentary.  They give a little more insight into the film and also share their opinions of Thierry Guetta and street art in general.  Interesting stuff.
